"Blood in the Bussex”
by Tony Wilson &
Harry Mottram is
a
production incorporating love and betrayal, war and rebellion and
modern dispute. It is about car parks, the 1865 Monmouth rebellion
and in particular, its effects on John and Oliver Butcher from
Axbridge.
The
plot: a modern group of actors having a disagreement about a
new car park development for their town. The actors fall out with each
other as they rehearse a period play about the 1865 Monmouth Rebellion.
In
the story, the director is locked in a power struggle with her
assistant director over details of the play. It is a parallel
reflection of the struggle between Monmouth and King James II and is a
darkly humorous view of one of the bloodiest chapters in the West
Country's history.
